Officials say that six people have died due to the sinking of a boat carrying migrants on an English channel, while two individuals could still be missing.
Local French authorities stated that according to the testimony of survivors from the sunken boat, there were 65 or 66 people on board. They mentioned that more than 20 individuals were taken by British authorities to Dover.
Local mayor Franck Dherasin tweeted images of some migrants, who were saved by riding on a rescue boat covered with a golden aluminum blanket.
Several migrants drowned in another tragedy that occurred on the Calais/Vincent coasts.. One day, we will have to stop recording the number of deaths in the channel and mid-ocean,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The English channel is one of the busiest waterways in the world, and crossing it on small boats is extremely dangerous.
Human trafficking often leads to overloading of vessels, and deaths in the tumultuous sea are common.
